our process
the script
First, the contents to record are reviewed & edited.
Four copies of the text are needed, one for the artist, one for the producer, one for the sound engineer and another for the client.
A reasonable font-size (14) & font (Serif) are required. There should be enough space in the page for notes.
technical aspects
Any distracting breathing, page-turning sounds or long pauses will be removed during the editing, where the recording will be optimised for each session.
A suitable monitoring volume will be set for the entirety of the session. It will not change so that everyone involved is able to hear clearly.
production meeting
During this meeting the requirements for the session are discussed with the voice artist and the client.
This is the moment where the client should communicate their ideas, including the purpose of the recording, the medium, and a description of the intended audience.
the recording
Ideally, a voice recording should consist solely of pressing Stop & Record. Interrupting the speaker only makes sense if something fundamental is wrong.
It is certainly up to the speaker to determine the emphasis. They also determine the flow of the recording & when to take pauses.
